Overview

In times of rapid social, political, and ecological change, dreams can offer a window into the unseen forces shaping our world. Join us in this shared inquiry into what our dreams – and their echoes – may be telling us.

Exploring the deeper currents of our shared social unconscious

Social Dreaming offers a unique and generative space for professionals in the fields of psychology and psychotherapy to explore the collective meaning of dreams – not as individual diagnostic tools, but as lenses into the shared unconscious life of groups, communities, and society.

Rooted in the pioneering work of Gordon Lawrence at the Tavistock Institute, Social Dreaming shifts the focus from personal interpretation to communal sense-making. In our monthly online matrix sessions, participants are invited to share dreams without interpretation, allowing associations to emerge and interweave. This reflective process opens a doorway to insights about the wider social and cultural environment in which we live and work.

Why join a Social Dreaming Matrix?

  • To discover new meaning through the collective exploration of dreams
  • To explore how unconscious social themes are expressed in dream content
  • To reflect on the psychological climate of our times in a collaborative setting
  • To engage with colleagues in a unique mode of professional and personal inquiry.

This is not therapy, and the focus is not on the dreamer but on the dream and its resonance within the group. The process honours the dream as a gift to the collective – a starting point for dialogue, reflection, and creative thought.

Who is this for?

This group is open to:

  • Psychologists
  • Psychotherapists
  • Counsellors
  • Psychoanalysts
  • Professionals engaged with the psyche and the collective.

Whether you are new to Social Dreaming or experienced in group-based approaches to the unconscious, you are welcome to join.

What to expect

  • Regularly scheduled 1.5hrs online matrix sessions (via Zoom)
  • A confidential space, gently facilitated
  • A rhythm of dream-sharing and associative dialogue
  • Reflective discussions following the matrix.

Each matrix lasts around 75 minutes and is followed by a short reflection or debrief. Participants are encouraged to bring any dreams that feel alive – recent or remembered – into the space.

The emphasis is on co-creation, curiosity, and respect for the unconscious dimensions of group life.
