Free Career Mentoring
For early-career mental health professionals
At the Inner Citadel Institute, we are committed to nurturing the next generation of compassionate, reflective, and skilled mental health practitioners. To support emerging clinicians as they navigate the early stages of their professional journey, we are pleased to offer free career mentoring sessions for aspiring and newly qualified therapists, counsellors, and other mental health professionals.
Why Career Mentoring?
The transition from training to professional practice can be both exciting and uncertain. Many early-career clinicians find themselves asking:
- What kind of setting is right for me – NHS, private practice, third sector?
- Should I pursue additional training or specialise in a particular modality or population?
- How do I begin to build a sustainable and meaningful clinical career?
Our mentoring sessions provide a confidential, supportive space to explore these questions and more – with experienced practitioners who understand the complexities of working in the field today.
Who is it for?
This offer is open to:
- Trainees nearing the end of their counselling or psychotherapy qualification
- Recently qualified therapists (within the first 3 years of practice)
- Allied professionals (e.g. social workers, support workers) considering further clinical training.
Whether you’re seeking clarity around career direction, wondering how to gain experience, or curious about developing a niche, our mentors are here to support you.
What to expect?
Each mentoring session lasts 45 minutes and is offered online. Sessions are designed to:
- Reflect on your unique strengths, interests, and aspirations
- Explore different career pathways within the mental health field
- Provide guidance around supervision, further training, accreditation, and work-life balance
- Offer practical advice on navigating ethical, emotional, and logistical challenges early in your career.
This is not a therapy or supervision session, but a dedicated space for career reflection and development.
Our Approach
We take a relational, integrative approach to mentoring – rooted in the belief that personal development and professional growth are deeply interconnected. Our mentors draw on experience from across clinical settings, including private practice, higher education, the NHS, and community-based work.
Investing in the Future of the Profession
Supporting early-career professionals is central to our mission at the Inner Citadel Institute. We believe that thoughtful, well-supported clinicians are best placed to make a meaningful difference in the lives of others. If you’re starting out in the field, we’re here to walk alongside you as you find your way.
